Nevada Hydrogen Business Council Launches to Mobilize Industry and Policy Leaders Amid Shifting Federal Priorities
Las Vegas, NV – [23 April 2025] – In response to changing federal energy priorities and a growing need for private sector leadership, the Nevada Hydrogen Business Council (NHBC) has officially launched as a Nevada nonprofit business league. The Council, established to represent sustainable businesses operating across the hydrogen value chain, aims to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen technologies and provide a collaborative platform for industry leaders and policymakers.
As the current federal administration has signaled a shift away from sustainability and less inclination to supporting clean energy innovation, the NHBC believes it is incumbent upon businesses, state and local governments, and engaged citizens to take a leading role in driving the transition to cleaner technologies.
“We can’t rely on federal leadership right now — and we can’t afford to wait,” said Dery Daye, President of HyMAX LLC, founding member of the Nevada Hydrogen Business Council. “Current battery-electric vehicle (bEV) solutions are important but not enough, especially for hard to electrify sectors. We cannot decarbonize if battery-electric is the only answer. We need to look toward hydrogen as the way to power big trucks, airplanes, and ocean liners… passenger vehicles and a lot of other things.”
The NHBC advocates for a diversified clean energy strategy, where hydrogen plays a critical role in complementing electrification. Unlike battery-powered solutions that face limitations in range, recharge times, and raw material availability, hydrogen offers high energy density, rapid refueling, and flexibility across applications — making it vital for accelerating decarbonization at scale.
With Nevada’s abundance of solar and geothermal resources, a growing clean tech workforce, and a strategic logistical position in the West, the state is uniquely poised to become a hub for hydrogen innovation and investment.
Mr. Daye continued: “Hydrogen is uniquely versatile; not only for powering the fuel cells to generate on-board energy but also at-scale power production with a side benefit of being able to create clean water. Hydrogen is a bridge to decarbonization; the road to expanded hydrogen commercialization runs through Nevada.”
Strategic Priorities:
Policy Advocacy: Promote supportive legislation, regulatory frameworks, and incentives that advance hydrogen infrastructure, investment, and commercialization.
Industry Collaboration: Unite stakeholders across energy, transportation, manufacturing, and technology to drive integrated hydrogen solutions.
Economic Leadership: Establish Nevada as a magnet for hydrogen investment, job creation, industrial diversification, and energy resilience in Nevada.
Public Engagement: Promote education and awareness of hydrogen’s role in a sustainable, secure energy future.
